Newport is the most common area in Rhode Island for wedding proposals, with clients typically coming from out of state for weekend get away and surprise engagement. Below is some information about various spots to drop the question.


The Cliffwalk


The Cliffwalk is one of the City’s most popular destinations for visitors of all kinds. It is an approximate 4.75 mile public access shoreline pathway that begins on Memorial Blvd and ends near Bailey Beach. This is a point to point path, not a loop, though public transportation is readily available to bring you back to the start from Bailey beach as well as points in between.

There are multiple spots along the route to start and end, with the beginning at Memorial Blvd:


Memorial Blvd to 40 Steps: .75 miles

 - Flat surface

 - Tends to be crowded


40 Steps to Ochre Point: .5 miles

- Flat surface

- Tends to be crowded, especially around 40 Steps


40 Steps to Ruggles Ave: .6 miles

- Flat surface

- Tends to be crowded, especially around 40 Steps


Ruggles Ave to Marine Ave: .3 miles

- Flat surface turning to rocks and sand

- Less crowded


Ruggles Ave to Sheep Point Tunnel: .9 miles

- Rocks and sand

- Less crowded


Ruggles Ave to Ledge Rd:  1.8 miles

- Rocks and sand Rocks and sand

- Less crowded, though slightly more around Ledge Rd.  Note there is no parking allowed on Ledge Rd


Ledge Rd to Bailey Beach:  .4 miles

- Rocks and sand with some grass pathway

- Less crowded. Note there is no parking at the end
